Hi,

IMAP and POP are retrieval protocols.

SMTP is sending protocol.

Go to the properties of you account in Sylpheed, Send tab (third
tab), check the SMTP AUTH option. Leave the option as automatic and
the username and password empty to use the same as retrieval.

Go to the SSL tab and enable SSL for SMTP.

Try again to send a test mail.

You shouldn't need anything else.

About the Google mail, in the web interface, at the bottom, you can
see the login attemps. You can check there if there is any suspicios
activity.
