Not only does it not work for me, but also breaks the app-
password setup, which is why I am using Sylpheed 3.7.0. But
mind you I am on Windows XP, and it could work on newer OS
versions.

The OAuth things seems to pop-up a browser window for
authentification, which is an abomination, making e-mail
depend on modern web. I want no modern web for my e-mail!

No.

I would rather prefer to stick with Sylpheed than with
Google. I have already registered a couple of mailboxes
with a couple of free e-mail provides with reasonably large
space quotas, and found some migration software:

               https://imapsync.lamiral.info/

OAuth makes no sense for e-mail, anyway.
