GTK+ on Windows does not display the hiddden folders, so you cannot see
them from the GTK+ file dialog, regardless how the system is set to
show or not the hidden folders. Don't know how this on Win8 is, but at
least on Vista, by default, the \AppData folder is hidden.

This does not apply to \Documents folder, though, which by default is
visible (in Vista).

But why do you want to use the file dialog for attaching files ?
(instead of just drag and drop)
