It looks like the problem is related to the sylpheed.exe version number
or how Sylpheed is reading it. The file version is 3.2.0.1135 and has
remained the same all the way through, whether the app itself shows as
beta8 or beta7. Just now I tried copying in the patch again and Sylpheed
first opened as beta8, but then a moment later as beta7 and asked for
update.  The file version number never changed.
