  Not really. The actual difference is that the 'Open first unread
message when a folder is opened' option makes Sylpheed show the first
unread message in a folder ONLY if there is at least one unread message
in that folder. If there is none, then Sylpheed won't show you anything.
  In contrast, the 'Always open messages in summary when selected'
option will make Sylpheed ALWAYS show some message:
- it will be the first unread message if there are some unread messages
in a folder;
- it will be the first READ message in the list in case there are no
unread messages in that folder.
  So, this new feature will ALWAYS show you some message on clicking
the folder name in a 'Folder View' area.

  I guess this is the reason of all the misunderstanding and
all the concerns here. :) And it definitely looks more like a bug than
a feature.
