It is the already reported SSL problem in 2.4.0.

OpenSSL DLL included in 2.4.0 link MSVCR71.DLL, while other modules
link MSVCRT.DLL. This causes random crashes on SSL sessions.
I'm going to release a fixed version (2.4.0a) tomorrow.
