I am confused: this as far as I can tell, should not have anything to do with how messages are moved, or perhaps I am mistaken.
What does "Enable strict checking" mean/do?

However, you might get lucky trying Preferences->Common
preferences->Details->Advanced, and enabling 'Enable strict checking'.
