The sock_read error has has been mentioned from as early as
2007 on the Japanses Sylpheed list:

The "Source ID" warning has been known for quite some time,
and does not seem to be bad:

I therefore do not think it has anything to do with what
Google deceptively calls "less secure apps". Sylpheed 3.7.0
still works with my Gmail account over IMAP using an "app
password", but I seem to remember that Google plans to stop
supporting this protocol on the 30th of September.

I love Sylpheed and will rather change the e-mail provider
than the client. There are tools for migrating/syncing IMAP
mailboxes:

   <https://github.com/imapsync>
     <https://www.geekersdigest.com/how-to-sync-or-migrate-mails-from-an-imap-account/>

Large e-mail providers of long standing exist besides Gmail:

I confirm that mail.ru and rambler.ru work with Sylpheed
allright.
