[sylpheed:37216] origin of duplicate (2) folder?

Running 7 distros (with sylpheed as my only mailer in all of them) I
use a single .sylpheed-2.0 folder on a remote data drive that a link
by the same name points to from my home folder in every installed
system. Similarly but in a different remote directory I use a purely
mail data folder with subfolders like mymail containing Inbox, Sent, 
Trash as well as assorted collectors like Work, Family, Accounts,
Suppliers etc. All this has been working QUITE WELL for several years
now but the other day I discovered a newly 'appeared' accounts2 three
times the size of the of the original accounts.

This accounts2 is in the same single remote directory where accounts
lives so I cannot easily tell by which instance of sylpheed then
running under which system it was creted. By comparing growth and dates
I can probably isolate which one is the one now being used but I was
wondering if anyone had seen this before and managed to trap the cause?
And assumiong that it's account2 then how do I revert it to just
accounts?
