I think the status of what mail has been downloaded from the POP server
is kept in the file ~/.sylpheed_2.0/uidl/<mail_server>-<account_name>.
Hiro-san, I'm sure will have the definitive word.

The status of the mailbox and its icons are kept in .sylpheed_cache
and .sylpheed_mark in the mailbox. Delete those files, rebuild the
folder tree (and maybe repeat the process -- sometimes I find that
necessary) and all the files in the mailbox will be shown as new (with
red icons).
