[sylpheed:34791] Web page email links not opening Sylpheed in Win 7

With XP and Opera browser, clicking on a web page email link opens a
Sylpheed compose window with the address inserted, no problem.  But
since installing Win 7, - installed on a new SSD, hence dual boot - it
doesn't work.  Instead, email links return an "Internal
communication error" web page. Has anyone seen a similar problem?  

My settings in Win 7 and Opera (and Sylpheed) are the same as they are
in XP (given defaults are set up differently in Win 7).  I've posted on
a couple of Win 7 forums, including MS Answers, but everyone is at a
loss to figure it out. Could it have anything to do with Sylpheed?
