[sylpheed:34094] puzzling text display issue

I have been using Sylpheed for years. I was running it originally on
XP, then I moved to Ubuntu 9.10. I also run sylpheed on my work
computer which is win 7 pro sylpheed 3.01.

I just set up up sylpheed on my wife's laptop which is also running win
7 pro sylpheed 3.02. I imported my mailboxes from Ubuntu and am running
them off a flash disk. Here is my issue - I cannot seperate lines using
the carriage return 
 
If I want to make a new distinct paragraph I have to  hit return THEN
space bar. Any incoming messages are displayed as one long mass of
text with no breaks of any sort. 
 
Is this a bug with sylpheed? Wondering if it had some issue to do with
the mailboxes having been on Unix I tried creating a new account on the
computer drive with the mbx stored there as well. Result? The same. Any
ideas?
