There is a hidden setting mentioned in the Readme file:

enable_rules_hint		enable alternating row colors for summary view (0: off  1: on   [default: 1])

Try setting this to 0 in sylpheedrc. But it doesn't work in Windows. I cannot get alternating row colours. I've mentioned this several times but have never received an answer.
