[sylpheed:33425] Sylpheed 3.0beta4 sometimes dies when sending mail in an Ubuntu 64bit system - more detail

I've just moved to a dual core laptop and installed Ubuntu 9.10 64
bit. I compiled Sylpheed 3.0beta4 okay and it's been working well
except that every now and then when I'm sending a message Sylpheed
crashes/disappears. The message shows in the Sent folder but I need to
test and see that the message was actually sent when Sylpheed shut down.

Anyway, is this somehow related to running Sylpheed in a 64 bit system,
in Ubuntu 9.10 or what? Anyone else have this problem?

Further to the above when I run Sylpheed from a terminal and watch the
output this is what I get. What is curl?

jshane at js1810T:/$ sylpheed

(sylpheed:21147): Sylpheed-WARNING **: Couldn't execute curl

(sylpheed:21147): Sylpheed-WARNING **: g_spawn_async_with_pipes: Failed
to execute child process "curl" (No such file or directory)
Segmentation fault

I've found some references to the same problem on the ubuntu Italian
list but not a solution. Don't have time to go through all the
debugging/backtrace steps right now but will try to do that sometime
soon. John
