Sylpheed does not render HTML and (hopefully, because that's why I use it)
never will. HTML e-mails with embedded images will therefore not be
displayed as intended by sylpheed.

OTOH, if you just want to see attached images inline then it's:

Configuration > Common preferences > Display > Message > Display images as
inline.
