Just a few basic questions, but that can make a big difference:

1) Are you using GNU make?
2) Are you using GNU ld?
3) Have you tried doing updating the master list of libs
on your machine with the command "crle"?
4) Are you sure /usr/lib/libX11.so.4 is in your $PATH?

Sorry if you have tried/checked this before, but -- in
my limited Solaris experience -- all of these questions
can have a big impact on compiling Linux software...
