I can confirm it, since tuesday I cannot send mails from gmail account
through Sylpheed.  Log follows, slightly "anonymized":

To avoid loosing sent messages, I'm keeping them on the queue until I
get a reply.  At least I know the recipient received it.  However,
sending a message to another account of mine, I can confirm that the
message is indeed queued for delivery by gmail.
