[sylpheed:30096] sylpheed with clamav

Sorry if my question is stupid. I want to combine Sylpheed, in linux, with clamav. Doing some googling I found many links to clamav+sylpheed-claws (which has a clamav plugin) but none with sylpheed. So I am asking the community here.
 I installed clamav and start the daemon clamd, then sylpheed. But during the message  receiving phase I don't detect any sign of clamav working, i.e. some slowing down of the operation.
1) Is it possible to have this combination ? 
2) Is there some additional configuration to do ?
