I thought there was some odd filtering happening too.
My 2 odd instances were just my filter rules, though.
One was "Rx" (which is mostly to short to be useful).
The other was regex: V.*I.*A.*G.*R.*A,
which happens to match other real email subjects sometimes.

If you do/can build sylpheed from source, you can try my
patch (in email #30075) to print out sylpheed's filtering
decisions.  It helped me.
