Complementing, I just noticed that the button in the taskbar for Sylpheed
also disappears when the behavior happens.

Going in the Configuration to re-enable the minimize button, hitting [Apply]
is not enough, I have to hit [OK] or the minimize icon in the title bar is
not restored.
