You could also try Ctrl-T twice to re-sort. I opened the "Common Preferences" and looked through all of the tabs and sub-tabs and found nothing. I then looked through the manual and found nothing. I finally did a diff of my sylpheedrc and her sylpheedrc. I found that my toolbar_style was 3 and her toolbar_style was 1. Setting hers to 3 restored the text below the icons on the menu (tool) bar and solved my problem. I would set up Sylpheed on the Linux system from scratch, using the windows Sylpheed presents. Once that is done, note where the top directory of the email is located (most likely ~/Mail). Remove that directory and everything under it (cd; rm -r Mail) and copy your email structure to that location. Then, right click on "Mailbox (MH)", pull down to "Rebuild folder tree", and then release your mouse. As far as I know, your emails should now show up. BTW, Sylpheed keeps its configuration files on Linux in ~/.sylpheed-2.0. The permissions for a directory should be drwx------. Well, that clarified things. I moved my .sylpheed-2.0 and Mail directories to another directory and ran Sylpheed (3.5.0beta1). It gave me a choice where to make the mh directory; I took the default (~/Mail). Looking at the new .sylpheed-2.0 directory, I found in the file folderlist.xml the following: ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- So you can either start Sylpheed's set-up process as I did above and then rebuild the folder tree, or edit ~/.sylpheed-2.0/folderlist.xml to change the path to what is shown in the second line of the file as listed above and then rebuild the folder tree. Hi, I'm going to say a stupid thing, that is the reason I haven't replied yet, but in Windows there is a sylpheed.ini, isn't there a Linux equivalent? http://sylpheeddoc.sourceforge.net/en/faq/sylpheed-faq-2.html#d0e1507 Here I read that you can change the path in folderlist.xml but that doesn't "fix" the problem of specify where should be the mails folder (that is strange it is searchin in the user root folder), but a mixed workarround, changing the main declaration path. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=258717 But I won't do myself because using the current path of the configuration files to specify another path is mix things too much, in my opinion. All files are or should be in the same path. If you try, remember to make backups of all first. Tell us if you try it. Regards. The solution I have posited above is mentioned by "rollps" on November 18th 2006 and acknowledged by "berserker" also on November 18th 2006, who also asks about S/MIME. The next post by "berserker" is on February 12th 2007 and he mentions nothing about the advice about folderlist.xml being bad and does say he can send emails. > But I won't do myself because using the current path of the > configuration files to specify another path is mix things too much, > in my opinion. All files are or should be in the same path. I'm not sure what you mean. I have ~/.sylpheed-2.0 and ~/Mail. > If you try, remember to make backups of all first. Good idea. > Tell us if you try it. I tried it. I moved my Mail directory and all of its sub-directories to /tmp, edited ~/.sylpheed-2.0 as I have mentioned, and restarted Sylpheed. It works just fine. I know Linux is different, I just don't use as my main OS and now I don't have even a partition for it. **That's the reason I said I was going to said a stupid thing**, because I couldn't test how Sylpheed runs on Linux, but as I saw who started the thread desperate... I tried to bring some light or possible path to fix. Regards. I thought I tried to edit the folderlist.xml maybe I did it wrong but this time it worked :) Just adding "Mail/" to the path property like path="Mail/" and everything looks like as it should look. I ran "Rebuild folder tree" after that maybe I didn't need to but..... > > Craig Thanks again for looking into that. Anyway it would be really nice if one can rerun the wizzard from the first start that asks where the mailboxes are. -- From uhel at gmx.net Wed Sep 24 19:04:14 2014 From: uhel at gmx.net (uhel at gmx.net) Date: Wed, 24 Sep 2014 12:04:14 +0200 Subject: [sylpheed:36194] Re: Proper way to migrate from WinXP to Linux?
