Maybe this problem?

Yandex IMAP server doesn't seem to like the following auth line:
authzid \0 authcid \0 password
and only accepts:
\0 authcid \0 password
(in Sylpheed, authzid and authcid equals to IMAP username)
Try LOGIN authentication method in account prefs.
