I used your patch on CentOS 5.4 and tested it, and it seems good!
The only thing I'd like to point is that you removed switch() but it still
remains in the output of usage.
Usage: ./pgpool {start|stop|switch|status|restart|condrestart|condstop|reload|force-reload}
